The annual ten top food&drink towers trends report is widely respected within the industry and eagerly anticipated by producers, PRs and journalists alike. The report is published annually for free, which is something we’ve done since we launched in 2006.
The report will continue to remain a free resource to everyone who is a registered member at food&drink towers and is also sent to thousands of food&drink journalists and stakeholders around the world (top three audiences are UK, US, Australia).
We now have more than 5,300 members who have voluntarily registered at www.foodanddrinktowers.com including 1,600 journalists. Written by Helen Lewis, a freelance food&drink journalist with more than 13 years of experience working in B2B market research, publishing, media and PR, the report draws upon three major sources of information: an independent online survey, informal interviews with members of the media and the food&drink industry and contributions from our sponsors: Green Saffron, Honeybuns, Cricketer Farm, Delavals (Brewers) Ltd, operators of The National Trust Beer Club and the founder of Chef.co.uk Nick Rosen.
The 10 top trends are created by Helen Lewis, who is managing editor and founder of www.foodanddrinktowers.com. Helen is a published author and journalist specialising in food&drink trends, new product development (NPD) and market research. Helen’s writing has been featured in The Grocer, Just-food.com, Just-drinks.com, Caterer & Hotelkeeper, delicious.com and numerous other trade titles. Helen is the author of more than 50 market reports for companies including Reuters Business Insight, Datamonitor and Business Monitor International. More recently, Helen became director of Literally PR, specialising in book, drinks and food PR. Literally PR Limited is the official parent company of www.foodanddrinktowers.com.
Helen has written the previous annual trends reports published at www.foodanddrinktowers.com.
For the second year running, the Trends Report will contain results of an online survey, conducted among members of food&drink towers, as well as via social networking sites and other industry contacts. The original survey is still available to view at http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/fdt2014trends. The following chart shows the areas in which the respondents work. Just under a quarter are consumers who don’t work in the food/drink industry but would consider themselves ‘foodies’ having signed up to food&drink towers to access the latest food&drink news, or following us on social media, 20% work in the media, 14% in marketing and 10% in PR.
To create the report, Helen informally interviewed members of the media and food&drink industry, as well as PR and marketing specialists, to gain insight into the important influences on cooking, shopping, eating and NPD. Secondary research is conducted throughout the year to keep on top of the latest trends.
Our sponsors were also invited to contribute their thoughts on the 10 trends and provide industry insight into the key influences on food&drink in 2014. Their comments are included throughout the report to add gravitas to our trend analysis and showcasing the industry’s own views.
